Participants

GORDON BAKER-BONE tours regularly nationwide and has featured on AXS TV’s Gotham Live and voted one of Brooklyn’s 50 Funniest People in 2016. He’s also written for MTV, and is a regular at the Stress Factory Comedy Club and Comix in Connecticut. Originally from Newark, NJ, Gordon’s style can be described as a clever, witty, and chaotic, connecting with people on all levels.

MIKE BROWN is a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor based in Harlem, New York. Audiences across the country are drawn to Mike’s charismatic stage presence and animated style of storytelling. He has appeared on TruTV, Adult Swim, and Bravo! Mike regularly hosts the Comedy Outliers showcase and podcast featured in The NY Times. Mike writes and stars in the critically-acclaimed comedy webseries “CAN’T STOP, WON’T STOP”.

JOHN MINUS is a comedian, writer, and all-around great guy who lives and breathes his home state of New Jersey. From Race to Role-Playing games, John can speak intelligently (but not necessarily sanely) about several topics, and is known for being able to relate to any audience. John wants to re-invent the image of what a Suburban Comic can be. He’s performed at Broadway Comedy Club in the Stand-Up 360 festival, Comix at Foxwoods, and Greenwich Comedy Club among others. John also produces his own comedy show, the Non-Productive Comedy Show.

CERROME RUSSELL, born and raised in Sumter County, GA, started his comedy career 10 years ago while serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was first exposed to a broader audience as a cast member on the 2nd Season of BET’s popular prank show Hell Date. He has traveled extensively, performing at college campuses and military installations worldwide, as well as opening for Hannibal Burress. Cerrome Russell’s comedy comes in many varieties, including Off-Center, Truthful, and of course, Country.

DILLON STEVENSON is a comedian, improv performer and comedy writer from New York City. He’s performed stand-up at Broadway Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club and other venues in NYC. He’s also hosted shows, events and parties in and around the city. A student of UCB, Dillon performs improv at several top venues in NYC. As a co-founder of the comedy group G.R.I.T.S. he’s written, directed and performed in sketch shows off Broadway and throughout New York.

About the DECEPTICOMICS

“The group, made up of Dillon Stevenson (NY Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club), Gordon Baker-Bone (AXS Gotham Comedy Live, Winner 2011 NJ Comedy Fest & Co-Writer “Hater-Bot”), John Minus (Non-Productive Comedy Group, Comix NYC), Mike Brown (Caroline’s Comedy Club, Stand Up NY, and Laugh Lounge) and Cerrome Russell (BET’s “Hell Date”, Knitting Factory, & opener for Hannibal Buress) built their following from the sharp-witted world of Black Twitter, a digital community known for dragging racially insensitive brands and media outlets to their demise, bringing underreported social injustices to national spotlight and turning the timeline into a digital Summer Jam screen for a few immoral “average Joes” (adulterers, deadbeat dads, con artists etc.) Above it all, The Decepticomics cultivated a strong following while simultaneously avoiding the stereotypes of black male comedians.”

“Like their counterparts in the music industry, many black comedians, including Dick Gregory and Dave Chappelle more recently, have used their platform to weigh in on the social and political issues of their time in a manner that kept audiences laughing and thinking simultaneously. Funny men and women of African descent continue that tradition today, providing a perspective that rarely gets heard beyond the confines of barbershops, churches, and other black meeting spaces. One particular comedic group by the name of The Decepticomics has taken on this responsibility with ease that comes with combined decades of experience and respect for the craft.”

The Decepticomics are: Gordon Baker-Bone, Mike Brown, John Minus, Cerrome Russell and Dillon Stevenson
